Violin Dilemma:Should I Stay or should I go?
So here's a little idea about me. I've been playing the violin for 5 years now and is currently playing out of Suzuki book 7, I can shift but I'm a terrible sight reader. I've been in tri-county and all-county High School orchestras last year, and multiple times, in solo and ensemble festivals. Currently I'm in the first violin section in my school orchestra, but here's the thing: I never wanted to play the violin in the first place I wanted to play cello and string bass. I've been forced to play the violin because of my parents.
I'm getting sick and tired of playing classical music everyday and to be honest I don't really enjoy playing the violin. I think it would be a waste for me to quit but...isn't it already a waste that I'm playing an instrument I don't really like? I have mixed feeling on this and I don't know what to do....Is there anyway to make a violin a more enjoyable experience? If anyone can give me advice on this I would reeeaally appreciate it! Thank You!!
The violin isn't only for classical music!
Maybe you can search for another type of music that you can play.
fiddle ( celtic,folk bluegrass,traditional any of those !)
Movie scores,rock,or pop music. Find something that you like and balance your practice time by playing music you enjoy.This way your keeping up your hard earned skills and getting some enjoyment from it.If you hate playing classical music then why would you want to double your practice time by playing another classical instrument such as the cello?
Or if violin is becoming a pain to do, quit your orchestra and festivals and all that. You have accomplished great things maybe it's time to go do something you enjoy more. Look for another violin or fiddle group to join that takes less of your time. This way you'll keep up your skill and hopefully have fun and still be able to do other things you enjoy.
A lot of people would be jealous of your skill, so be proud and glad that you've come so far! It only shows the character you have to be able to stick with something you hate to do. This is a great skill to have in life and will get you through a lot.
