Saxophone questions? (How much does it cost? Alto vs. Tenor?)?
Ok, I want to play an instrument, and I was looking through my music teachers book today and I really liked the saxophone. So I decided to do a little research, and I was just wondering if I should play the Alto or the Tenor. I play the recorder and I own a guitar but I cannot play it, so there's my musical background. If you give your opinion, please give your reasons. I want an educated answer. And depending on which one I get, how much will it cost? I couldn't find any answers to these on google.
First of all, I wouldn't base your choice on alto vs tenor on how big you are like someone mentioned earlier. listen to some tenor saxophone music and some alto saxophone music and decide which one you like the sound of better. I personally prefer tenor, I love the deep jazzy sound I get with it.
It is going to be somewhat expensive to get a saxophone. they have cheap ones that are all kinds of different brands but they aren't worth a crap. you will want to look into one of the different good brands such as Yamaha, Selmer-Paris, Cannonball, and Keilworth.
If your aren't going to get a pro line horn, i would stick with yamahas
If you want to get a lower priced but still decent horn, get a Yamaha YAS 275 (alto) or YTS 275 (tenor). Those are Yamaha's student model horns.
If you want to spend more money and get a horn that will do better, get a Yamaha YAS 475 (alto) or YTS 475 (tenor), those are Yamaha's Intermediate line horns.
